Adding calcium chloride to the pool water allows the pool to be a pH buffer solution while increasing the water hardness, which can result in less erosion of the concrete in the wall. According to the Lechtler principle and the same ion effect, increasing the calcium concentration in the pool will slow down the dissolution of the calcium compounds that are indispensable to the concrete structure.

Adding calcium chloride to the aquarium of the marine aquarium increases the amount of calcium available in the water, and the molluscs and the coelenterate cultured in the aquarium use it to form the shell of calcium carbonate. Although the same purpose can be achieved with calcium hydroxide or calcium reactors, the quickest addition to calcium chloride is also the least affected by the pH of the water.
